What is the difference between a hepa air filter and a regular air filter machine?

Hepa is held to a higher standard...think of it like a coffee filter. If you made coffee with a piece of screening (like a screen door) that'd be like a regular filtre...it'll only catch the big stuff. Now think of a hepa filter like using 2 regular
